Twist Range Chart

The recommended fiber lengths with respect to yarn count is represented in the chart below. The warp yarns are the yarns with the highest twist. The twist of weft yarns is approximately 10% lower than the warp yarns. The twist of hosiery yarns is approximately 20% lower than the warp yarns.

Fine yarns require long staple fibers and high twist. Coarse yarns can be produced with short fibers and low twist. The relationship is shown in the chart above.

Example: It is recommended to select a fiber length between 1” to 11/16” for the count range Nec 5 to Nec 20.
